Ragunan Residence
South Jakarta, Indonesia
Residential | Design Completed (2017) | Area: 4,500 m²
This cluster of 26-unit housing challenges the idea of conventional cluster arrangement here in Indonesia by amalgamating the green space in the individual plot into a shared communal space. This shared space is multi-functional for different activities for all residents creating a sense of community. Additionally, the communal space offers a safe place for children to play with its placement on higher level than the vehicle access on the perimeter.
This residence also encourage a multi-income community by providing different unit type from a single bedroom for young couple or single person, two-bedroom unit for a young family as well as a three-bedroom unit for a more established family. This translated into different storeys on different units, bring an overall dynamic skyline. A clubhouse is also provided as part of leisure facility for the residents.
The exterior design of the unit uses exposed brick, the enduring material that brings a sense of homey and comfort. With minimal intervention of material, colors and design on the overall façade, the architecture becomes a humble backdrop of the active communal space.
